We are extremely busy with the Spring rush and far too busy for frequent blog posts. But I do have a few things to bring to your attention.
We have recently added a new sales channel, Costco in Canada. You can now (or anyday now) visit Costco's Canadian website to purchase specific Rittenhouse gardening products. I am not sure how many items we are offering at this point but we expect this to be a successful sales channel for Rittenhouse.
Aeroplan!!!
Rittenhouse is now offering Aeroplan miles for all purchases. Obviously you will need to have an Aeroplan card to participate. We are busy working to add a new box to the Rittenhouse website check out process to make it easy to earn your miles. It will likely be another week until we finish setting it up. But for the time being we can take your number over the phone or the front counter.
For some silly reason the decision was made to cut the air time this bloggers favourite podcast, the Rick Emerson Show from Portland Oregon. They have added music to the Best Show Ever and cut out nearly an hour of talk time. To read all about this travesty you can visit this blog, Save RES. They have added more Rick and removed some of the music as this week progressed .. so there is hope.

Rittenhouse Introduces Chemical Free Weed Control Machine
St.Catharines, ON (PRWEB) February 2, 2009 -- Restrictions on pesticide use are becoming an issue across North America when it comes to maintaining lawns and other weed prone areas. Rittenhouse now offers a unique solution.
Using patented technology, the Green Steam produces super-heated steam to 650° F to quickly and effectively kill weeds without chemicals. The Green Steam unit uses a standard 20lb. propane tank that will last for approximately eight hours of continuous operation, while the 10-gallon water tank provides three hours of constant operation. The unit uses a deep cycle 12 volt battery to operate the diaphragm pump. The Green Steam can be outfitted with an optional hose reel including 25' of hose. The Product Comparison Website & Bring Back Tim Riley
Well, it sure is getting close to X-Mas and here at Rittenhouse we are past the peak of the Christmas rush. It has been busy lately but we certainly can feel the impact of the economic downturn south of the border ... more on that later in todays post.
Our crack IT team in the IT nerve center, known locally as the "West Wing", has unveiled yet another website. Expanding our web presence and providing even more information to help our customers decide which product best suits their needs. The reason we have had to take these measures and go to the effort to build another complex custom made website is that we have added multiple new product lines. In the past Rittenhouse would normally chose one brand in each product line. This was usually done so that we can focus on providing expertise and parts support without filling our warehouse with similar products. We have since moved past that strategy and are now offering competing product lines.

Now, on a sadder note. This blogger is distressed that his favourite podcast is now only 2/3 of the fun and entertainment it used to be. Due to the miserable economic circumstances CBS radio in Portland Oregon has been forced to lay-off Tim Riley from the Rick Emerson show on AM 970, the podcast can be found here: www.970.am. Tim is a first class newsman, an humourist, snappy dresser and an all around good guy. He has the classic radio voice and a unique style of news delivery, if you have ever heard his newscast more than a few times you will completely understand what I am talking about here. New Products & Paul Newman RIP
Hello All,
We have been very busy adding new products to the main Rittenhouse website. Below is a brief description and a link to the new products if you would like further information.
The Green Gorilla Battery Powered Sprayer:
As a sprayer company that is over 90 years old, we see a lot of innovative sprayers come and go. There is always somebody out there trying to re-invent the "wheel" ... or in this case, re-invent the sprayer. However we have never seen a sprayer such as this one. Instead of a pump this sprayer uses a little battery powered air compressor to fill the tank with compressed air and that is what propels the liquid. So no more pumping!! Basically you just plug in the battery pack the day before you need the Green Gorilla, then when it has a full charge you attach it to the sprayer, turn it on and let the compressor fill the tank with air. Then you are ready to spray. I was amazed at the height that this unit can spray, I was hitting the ceiling of our factory which is at least 20 feet high. So this hand held sprayer would be perfect for fruit trees such as apples, oranges and peaches. The beauty of this sprayer, the chemical does not have to touch the pump ... because there is no pump.

Heated Hose
This innovative product is brand new to Rittenhouse, so new that its not even going to be available for sale for about 3 months. But here is your sneak preview. This is an excellent item for those of us living in the northern climes and need to use running water outdoors in the winter time. Which for obvious reasons is very tricky. However this new hose plugs in and has a heating element inside the hose to keep the water flowing. The target market is farming, such as livestock raising, construction and for flooding the backyard hockey rinks. It will be ready to ship in December 2008. It is available for pre-order now. Paul Newman RIP
We are saddened by the loss of Paul Newman. He was a great actor and a great man. One of my favorite movies was The Sting and he was fantastic in that movie. Go here for his IMDB entry >> Paul Newman . If you take a look at his list of movies I am sure you will find many of his movies that you enjoyed.
It also must be mentioned the massive amount of work he did for charity. His line of salad dressings are both fantastic and part of the money goes to a worth while cause.
