Spring has sprung .. too busy to blog

Hello Blogees

We are extremely busy with the Spring rush and far too busy for frequent blog posts. But I do have a few things to bring to your attention.

We have recently added a new sales channel, Costco in Canada. You can now (or anyday now) visit Costco's Canadian website to purchase specific Rittenhouse gardening products. I am not sure how many items we are offering at this point but we expect this to be a successful sales channel for Rittenhouse.

Aeroplan!!!

Rittenhouse is now offering Aeroplan miles for all purchases. Obviously you will need to have an Aeroplan card to participate. We are busy working to add a new box to the Rittenhouse website check out process to make it easy to earn your miles. It will likely be another week until we finish setting it up. But for the time being we can take your number over the phone or the front counter.

For some silly reason the decision was made to cut the air time this bloggers favourite podcast, the Rick Emerson Show from Portland Oregon. They have added music to the Best Show Ever and cut out nearly an hour of talk time. To read all about this travesty you can visit this blog, Save RES. They have added more Rick and removed some of the music as this week progressed .. so there is hope.

Hey, did you notice that we sell Garden Tools????

Anyways, back to filling orders!

Peace Out Y'all!

Rittenhouse Introduces Chemical Free Weed Control Machine

St.Catharines, ON (PRWEB) February 2, 2009 -- Restrictions on pesticide use are becoming an issue across North America when it comes to maintaining lawns and other weed prone areas. Rittenhouse now offers a unique solution.

Using patented technology, the Green Steam produces super-heated steam to 650° F to quickly and effectively kill weeds without chemicals. The Green Steam unit uses a standard 20lb. propane tank that will last for approximately eight hours of continuous operation, while the 10-gallon water tank provides three hours of constant operation. The unit uses a deep cycle 12 volt battery to operate the diaphragm pump. The Green Steam can be outfitted with an optional hose reel including 25' of hose. The reel swivels and features an automatic rewind for ease of operation. The compact design of the machine also increases usability, at only 60lbs the Green Steam can be transported easily from site to site. A skid mount version is also available for placement in the back of a truck or utility vehicle.

Cities and municipalities will find the Green Steam to be a very useful tool as part of their regular maintenance programs. It is perfect for eliminating weeds in sidewalks, parking lots and other hardscaped areas. The use of steam means there is no concern over spray drift or residue. In addition to government organizations, private landscapers will appreciate this convenient alternative to chemical weed control.

The Green Steam provides a unique opportunity to be ahead of the curve and ahead of the competition when it comes to implementing a green care program. Visit the Rittenhouse website or call toll free 1-800-461-1041 to inquire further about the Green Steam and other great landscaping products.

Rittenhouse has been a family owned and operated company since 1914. We have extensive knowledge serving the green care industry as well as other horticultural and agricultural related sectors. Visit the Rittenhouse website to learn more about Rittenhouse and the products we offer which include professional landscaping tools and equipment, Hypro pumps, garden tools and outdoor living products.

Equipment Shipping Prices Slashed!

In an effort to battle the recession, Rittenhouse is offering a fantastic deal on the shipping of selected equipment. It does not matter if you are in California, Florida or Victoria BC, we have lowered our shipping rates to $149 for our most popular equipment that must be shipped by transport truck on a pallet. Saving our customers anywhere from $100 to $600 on transportation costs. There are some restrictions that will apply but this would save money for most of our customers.

Rittenhouse Sprayers

In other news, here in Ontario our government is hell bent on banning commonly used herbicides and pesticides for "cosmetic" use. While we would prefer that the ban was for consumers and that licensed professionals can continue to apply these products apparently the Provincial government has a different opinion on the matter. So those of us in the green industry have been anxiously awaiting the details of the ban that is essentially already in place.

As best I can tell, this is where the list of affected products can be found:
Banned Pesticides in Ontario

Its unfortunate that we still do not have the details of the bans when Spring is just weeks away and the dandelion seeds that are lying in wait in my lawn. We understand the need to clean up our environment, but the "feet dragging" and confusion for the green industry is stifling business. Landscapers and property management companies are desperate to find out which tools will be in there arsenal against weeds.

The Product Comparison Website & Bring Back Tim Riley

Well, it sure is getting close to X-Mas and here at Rittenhouse we are past the peak of the Christmas rush. It has been busy lately but we certainly can feel the impact of the economic downturn south of the border ... more on that later in todays post.

Our crack IT team in the IT nerve center, known locally as the "West Wing", has unveiled yet another website. Expanding our web presence and providing even more information to help our customers decide which product best suits their needs. The reason we have had to take these measures and go to the effort to build another complex custom made website is that we have added multiple new product lines. In the past Rittenhouse would normally chose one brand in each product line. This was usually done so that we can focus on providing expertise and parts support without filling our warehouse with similar products. We have since moved past that strategy and are now offering competing product lines.

Here is an example, we are now offering a handful of backpack sprayers. To see the results, click here: Backpack Sprayers

To see the entire website and all the options available you can visit http://www.rittenhousecomparison.com/

Now, on a sadder note. This blogger is distressed that his favourite podcast is now only 2/3 of the fun and entertainment it used to be. Due to the miserable economic circumstances CBS radio in Portland Oregon has been forced to lay-off Tim Riley from the Rick Emerson show on AM 970, the podcast can be found here: www.970.am. Tim is a first class newsman, an humourist, snappy dresser and an all around good guy. He has the classic radio voice and a unique style of news delivery, if you have ever heard his newscast more than a few times you will completely understand what I am talking about here. I will miss his contributions to Rick's show and will continue to be a loyal listener. To keep up to date with Tim's lay-off and his take on the days news you can go to his website:

I will miss you Tim, hang tough and hurry back.

Rittenhouse Videos now on Youtube

Wow! Its December already.

A few new developments here on the Rittenhouse front. We have been shooting video of certain products for a while now and editing it as fast as we can. But the first batch has been uploaded to Youtube for your viewing pleasure.

Here: Rittenhouse

Things are very busy here today because it is Cyber Monday. Lots of gifts are being purchased for gardeners on our main website. If you would like to see some of our selection I would encourage you to take a look at this page:

Christmas Gifts for Gardeners

Start growing your hair, stop taking showers and fix up that old VW Microbus. Why you ask???? Well rumor has it, that the remaining members of the Grateful Dead (known as the Core 4 in Deadhead circles) are reuniting and taking the freakshow back on the road for an arena tour in the Spring. Hopefully it will be more successful and inspiring than the last time this happened back in '04 (I think). The band recently played at two Barack Obama benefit shows and that there is a possibility they are playing one of the inauguration parties in January. To keep up to date with all the rumors, the tour dates, cities and the musicians who are hitting the road with the Core 4, I would recommend the message board on this website:

Peace Out!
